While doing some research for my project this week, I couldn't help but wonder how the music therapy community was being affected from COVID-19. I knew it would be dangerous for them to continue working, so it was not a surprise reading that their president cut off work for protective measures. Not only is this affecting those who have jobs, but it also has a major impact on students and interns.
Although this is a very hard time, for everyone, the American Music Therapy Association has created a strong community with great resources for those in need. They always offer email and phone calls, but during the pandemic they have virtual office hour appointments available to those still learning and with a job. They've even posted an extremely long list of links to keep their people informed of the evolving world around them.
My brother works for the Veteran's Administration in Vegas, and most of his work-day consists of on-line counseling for Veterans who used to have to travel to his office. The jury is still out on what is more effective: in-person face-to-face or on-line.
